Authentically Catholic disciples sharing Jesus' love, with Mary as our model.
The Parish School of Religion program is designed to help you, as parents, to prepare your children for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. It is a time of spiritual growth for both parents and the children, who together prepare for and are invited to receive the Sacraments.
The normal time for children to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) for the first time is during the first semester of the second grade. Preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion will begin after the catechesis and celebration of the Sacrament of First Reconciliation has been completed. The celebration of First Communion is typically in the second semester of second grade. Students in higher grades will be accommodated with preparation during regular class time under the direction of the Pastor and PSR Coordinator.
Any student who will be receiving these sacraments must have attended a minimum of 1 year of PSR or approved religious study prior to the year they would receive the sacraments.
The Confirmation program begins in third grade and continues through eighth grade; therefore, continuous enrollment in the Parish School of Religion is required. During seventh and eighth grade we take a more specific focus on the Sacrament of Confirmation and living as part of the Parish community.
In addition to the regular PSR classes, parent meetings are held for each sacrament to assist parents in preparing their child at home for receiving the Sacrament. Attendance at these meetings is obligatory. Both parents are invited. At the parent meetings the teachers go over their expectations for the students and other important details of the sacramental preparations.
The sacrament of Confirmation is conferred every year. Confirmation, for the eighth graders who complete the requirements, is in the spring of the year.
